Words for food
Talking to friends, our parents had euphemisms for the nights when we had little to eat, and the parent wouldn’t or couldn’t cook. F’s parents called it “scratch” K’s “catch and kill’ my mum “bread and grabbit”. Basically, there may have been one staple (maybe) and you could scrounge up the rest, without supervision or regard.

Thesis!
I got my draft back from supervisor. She had about 5 changes, and said it was basically perfect. I AM SO GLAD I DID IT. Cleaning up the referencing took a whole day. This is very good news that is very welcome.
Pub with friends this afternoon, thesis celebration, though also a nice way to spend a very hot and humid Sunday. I am sweating from polishing my shoes!
I finished my thesis
Sometimes looking at it I cant even fathom what I wrote. My year now is waiting for my work redundancy, which will be about 30k, so I can finally go to Canada and find myself somewhere. And pay my debts. I got police check back. It says I have no criminal record. The thing is I was never caught. Crimes: Arson, break and enter, fraud. (This is a joke!)

Everything is generally crappy. No more dates for me, I guess I can chalk that up to experience. My arm hurts, just want to be, not dead, but somehow, never having to be required to be alive. How depressing.

Margaret Cho - Bodies, Anger and Language
Now this is an article about body issues, body policing, and personal narrative that I can get behind.
Having read some pretty lightweight, uncritical and introspective pieces on ‘the body’ in the Australian blogosphere recently, Margaret Cho is so fucking real and refreshing, I am hurting.
Being called ugly and fat and disgusting to look at from the time I could barely understand...

Got asked on a date for the first time in a while. At 8.45am today. At least I am pretty sure it is, if wanting to catch up next weekend and come to Manly where he lives and we can go to beach or something is a date?
I met him at a ‘Young Professionals’ work function a month or so ago, he works at Cityrail, a project engineer. He is about my age, from Iran, but has been in Australia...
you don't have to answer anyone
lifeisliterallylimited:
I can’t post what I feel on my blog anymore because too many people stalk it then interrogate me about why I say or believe certain things.
You don’t have to reply to questions posed to you. You know this. You are not a fetish. You are a human being, beautiful. I love your posts. Please don’t censor. Ignore those who demand of you. Who are they?

Storms
Thunder just now, the rain has been pattering for about 10 minutes. I always forget I have a balcony, remembered I wanted to have chairs out there. my arms is so swollen and painful. The RSI drs prescribed codeine and pressure bandage. I wish they would prescribe having to be off work at full pay.
I remember living in Peterborough - a small country town in South Australia, in our federation...

Creepy online survey is creepy
redlightpolitics:
Of all people, Hugo Schwyzer is conducting a survey about women’s online porn habits and masturbation. As Amadi rightfully pointed out, there is not a single mention about confidentiality, consent or age of respondents. Considering this individual’s history, I am very, very creeped out by the idea of this research.
umm me too.

When institutionalized racism raises its ugly head...
redlightpolitics:
I know many of the people who read this Tumblr on a (semi) regular basis are probably puzzled and/ or maybe disconcerted that this space has taken practically a monotone for the past month or so. I am talking specifically, about the Black Pete/ Sinterklaas racism that I have been covering. The thing is, in all the years I live in The Netherlands (many), this is the first time...

Part of the earnestness of the Occupy Movement comes from the exaggerated performance of a democracy that should be there, even as everyone involved is aware that democracy is not as it should be. People complain about the idealism of the movement - the wide-eyed surprise as police use powers that…
